What can you buy when you're coasting on fumes??

I peeked into my checking account and realized...gee I'm broke! That has never stopped me from shopping though, haha!

Here is what I bought...

I bought $264.oo worth of goods for $0 plus tax ($21.00). I submitted rebates in the amount of $39.00, so ultimately am making $18.00 by taking this stuff!! This is an example of "rolling your transactions" to get stuff for free.

I made a video scan to show details of all the stuff but can't get it to upload :/

Back to School :)

I can't believe it's that time already but apparently it is because I keep getting mail from Harmony Elementary and Pacific Middle School.

This last week at Safeway we had an opportunity to get boxtop for education catalina's and at the time i didn't think too much about it, it seems like such a small thing...

However, I received a welcome letter from Harmony today and in it it says that last year we alone (via various fundraisers etc) as a school raised $25,000 to be used in our school. This paid for;

Additional field trips,
New playground equipment and PE equipment,
New Library books,
Summer Reading program (the library was open in the summer for activities etc..
Art Discovery Program
All School Read (this was really fun last year, every child in the school receives a brand new copy of a chosen book and the whole school reads it together and has related activities and discussions etc.
Additional educational materials for staff

Wow! I can't wait to send in my boxtops!

Lentil Soup

Over the years, I have had so many requests for this recipe I have lost count!

When Brian turned 1, I remember vividly stepping on the scale and seeing that my last 28 lbs of post pregnancy weight was still with me. At that moment i decided to part ways with it as it no longer served me to maintain the relationship.

Over the following months the weight slowly started to disappear and I can partially credit this wonderful soup. It's hearty, filling and satisfying. I would make a big batch and freeze in serving size containers.

This recipe makes 14 cups. Each cup has;
111 calories
127 mg sodium
less than 10% fat and high in fiber

4c. low sodium chicken broth (if not watching your sodium you can use bouillon)
4c. water
1 c. dry lentils, rinsed
28 oz can whole or chopped tomatoes (I always chop) with juice
6 oz. tomato paste
1 Tb brown sugar
1 c. each; sliced carrots, italian green beans (or a bag of frozen mixed)
1 large onion
3 cloves garlic (or a big spoonfull of jarred garlic)
1 c. small dry pasta (you could also use rice)
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp each; basil, oregano, thyme, black pepper and marjoram ( sometimes use 1 T. Italian seasoning)
1/4 c. wine vinegar

In large pot combine broth, water, lentils, tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, vegetables and garlic.
Bring to a boil, lower heat, simmer 30-45 minutes.
Add 2 more cups of water, pasta, spices and vinegar, simmer 30 minutes.

If you are going to freeze some, now is the time to do it before the pasta gets too soft. If you are not going to freeze, you can put it in a crockpot and just leave it on low so people can serve themselves as they roll in the door :)

Since we are nearing fall, I thought it would be a good time to share this wonderful recipe. Again.

xo,

G

I Lied

People frequently ask me if now that I coupon, do I buy things I wouldn't normally buy?

I didn't think I did, but the more I think about it..... I DO!

Here is an example;

This is a picture of some items I recently purchased at Target. (The fact that I was there doing my Christmas shopping is a whole nother story, lol!)

Anyway, Chef Boyardee isn't anything we really eat and before couponing I didn't buy much candy. However, when Brian is in town he Loves this stuff as well as some of Keenans friends. And when I break it down, it doesn't seem so bad...

Wonka dark chocolate on sale 2/$6
Chef Boyardee .87

Used (2) $1 Target q Wonka
used (2) $1.50 Manufacturer q Wonka that I printed
used (3) $1 Target q Chef Boyardee

Paid $.61 for $9.61 worth of stuff.

My trio of Chef friends are holding down the fort in my food storage and the Wonka is lounging in a pretty candy dish :)

Grandma's Angel loves frozen yogurt :)

Love this!

Okay, this may be the best .19 cents I have ever spent!

If you haven't shopped the clearance yet at Walgreens, check for this Rimmel mascara which has been marked down to $2.19. There is a $2 Rimmel printable coupon that brings the price to .19 cents.

Today I decided to try it and keep in mind that I am not wearing ANY other makeup here, like liner or concealer. This is 1 coat and I should have taken a before picture to show you how skimpy my lashes are without mascara so you could be as impressed with this product as I am!!!

Here is one of the deals I got at Walgreens this week..all FREE.

The Nivea body wash sells for $5.99 but was on sale for B1G1 free. I used my $4 off Nivea coupons (we didn't get these in my local paper so I bought them on Ebay for abt $1). That means that very each pair I purchased it created an overage of $2. I bought 10 so I had $10 I needed to spend so I bought the Rejuvicare hair and nail supplements (endorsed by the Kardashians..hmmm) for $10. Now I'm at the zero mark. That product offered a $10 RR! The Aquafresh toothpaste is .99 cents each and I used a $2/2 mfr I clipped from the Safeway Monthly coupon book so they were free too. The Luster 7 tooth whitener is $5 this week with a $5 RR back. I paid for it with a RR from last week so snagged it for free (paid with a $5 RR and got another $5 RR) The Ecotrin aspirin is on sale for $2 with a $2 RR and i used a $2 mfr on them so i made $2 on each one I bought. After buying all this stuff for free I got $14 back! ($10 for supplements and (2) $2 for the aspirin)

A weekend of Love...

Brian and Brenna celebrated their recent marriage with a family get-together at the Dolphin Marina in Washougal and Jason and Jacki had a lovely wedding in Canby, Oregon. Congratulations to the happy couples!

How Pretty is this??!

Desta came for a last minute birthday visit! She gave me this almost as beautiful as the giver edible arrangement which was almost too pretty to eat (but we did)!

She had to head back to Utah but I miss her already...

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Have you tried these?

Not something I would normally buy but Albertsons had a deal on them and we have had some summer-like weather so I pulled the trigger...

The Deal;
Buy $12, get $4 catalina back. I bought 5 @ $2.50 each
subtotal $12.50

Used (5) $1 off mfr and paid $7.50

Rcd $4 back. Net cost $3.50 for 5 buckets o' Dibs, or .70 cents each.

Now for the test. I got to the car and ripped open the top and popped one in my mouth...oooh....good! These things are yum! The one I tried was the Nestle Crunch and it tasted like vanilla ice cream dipped in Nestle crunch chocolate, all in a little bite sized morsal.

Anyone tried these?

****SNOW****

Today was beautiful! I washed my car inside and out and swept all the little rocks off the driveway and sidewalk.

Desta texted me that in Utah where she is it SNOWED today!! How weird is that?

Keenan is in week 2 of Track. The past couple of years he has done sprints, hurdles and relays. He got some blue ribbons last year and always runs last leg in the relays. He's quick!

Also, I have been getting some great deals in the stores lately, have you? I haven't had time to post them all. Today I spent $5.62 at Walgreens and saved over $70.00. If you are interested in getting in on some of the incredible deals out there, I can recommend a few sites that might help you;

wildforwags.com if you like to shop at Walgreens
totallytarget.com if you like to shop at Target
thekrazycouponlady.com, covers all the main shopping stores

Good luck and feel free to share your deals and steals!

$75.00 worth of goods for $0.00 !

these Everlast supplements are $19.99 on sale for b1g1 free at Riteaid
use 1 $10 mfr from recent insert
use 1 b1g1 free printable (got mine from a link on Iheartriteaid.com
This creates a negative of $10 to spend!!

so i bought;
Olay regenerist, sale $15.99
used $5 mfr from P$G for moms coupon book
now I owe $1 but I want to use one of my famous $5/$20 riteaid coupons so i have to spend a little more to get to the zero balance mark.

so i bought,
2 lightbulbs normally price over $6 each, were marked down to $2 each
used 2 $1 mfr

2 snacks @ $1.25 each, used 2 $1 mfr
1 motrin pm priced at $5.49, used 1 $1 mfr and 1 $3 in ad

that gave me the last 2 dollars to get an ending balance of 0.00

Also, will submit the Olay for $1 scr, so I actually made a dollar :)

fyi; when you buy stuff and don't owe any money it isn't unusual for the cashier to call over the mgr to get an approval.

TGIF

Yay, it's the weekend!
I talked to Estelle recently and she told me she has been working out (and she is coming into town on June 29th for a couple of weeks) and it makes me want to get back on the bandwagon. I definitely get more motivated when the weather is nice. Today I was telling Keenan how I used to go running a lot and he had a hard time believing me!! He imagined it was a very "bouncy" experience for me, hahaha! Wasn't then but it sure might be now.
Any ideas or input out there on the subject?
